Play Park
Climb, clamber, slide and swing in our fantastic mining themed play park. You can learn about the coalfield and its history from a coals-eye point of view as you explore some of the iconic aspects of the collieries. A perfect way to exhaust little ones too!
Temporary Exhibitions
As well as the museum’s permanent exhibition we also have a dynamic changing temporary exhibition programme which shines a light on some of the lesser-known aspects of the coalfield’s history. Keep an eye on our What’s On page to see what’s coming up.
Museum trails
Whether you are searching for Ross the mouse hidden around the museum or trying to solve one of our tricky cipher trails there is something to do for everyone when visiting the museum. Pick one up at the museum entrance or ask one of our volunteers for more information.
The Lamp Room
If you’re looking for somewhere to get a warming drink, delicious meal or indulgent snack the onsite restaurant is the place to go. With locally sourced food, a seasonal menu, fresh cakes and a licensed bar there is plenty to tempt the tastebuds.
Activities and Adventure
Based on the old colliery spoil tip Betteshanger Country Park is not just an excellent site to explore on foot but also has an array of activities to get the adrenaline coursing. Hire a bike, try their archery sessions, explore a seasonal trail or challenge yourself to the military-style assault course.
The Glass Room
When our learning space isn’t being used to host school groups it is transformed into the beautiful Glass Room venue. Perfect for your wedding day or to impress delegates at your conference, this state of the art, flexible, light and airy venue is well worth checking out for any of your functions or events.
